Big Fat Panda

The members of Big Fat Panda have been playing in bands for years. Prior to forming, lead singer Big Andy was part of the legendary Bombskare, and other band members learned their substantial chops in acts such as Edinburgh bands The Harringtons and The One O’Clock Guns.

A Two Tone fan, Andy developed a love of ska from listening to The Specials and Madness. Digging deeper to find the music that influenced the Two Tone acts, Andy discovered Jimmy Cliff, Toots & the Maytals, Desmond Dekker and Prince Buster. “Great, great music. Totally brilliant and in need of more wide-spread appreciation.”

The sounds of the originals, plus the more up-tempo, punk-informed second wave of ska has been fed into the music of Big Fat Panda. Their line-up is fairly informal – a core of 5 musicians make the noise that has seen the band receive rave reviews at scooter rallies and ska festivals the length and breadth of the UK, but on a good night you might find as many as 8 Big Fat Pandas (including a 3-piece horn section) skanking their way through a set made up mainly of original material from debut album ‘It’s Oot!’ with a few choice covers. Their live show is an energy-packed, 100 mile an hour romp designed to thrill. Crowd pleasing, they promise, is Big Fat Panda’s number one priority.
